Physical Therapy for Sciatica in Tysons, VA
Tysons, VA Physical Therapy for Sciatic Nerve Pain
What is sciatica pain?
Your sciatic nerve path starts just outside of the base of your spine and travels through your buttocks down each leg. Pain that travels along the path of your sciatic nerve is known as sciatica. Sciatica pain can range in severity, from mild to a sharp, burning pain sensation. You may also experience numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, or some combination of symptoms in the foot or leg. Typically, sciatica only affects one side of the body. While mild sciatica can go away without treatment, if you’re experiencing discomfort in your body you should pursue physical therapy. Being proactive with one of your greatest assets, your body, can help you live the life you love longer while feeling your very best.
What causes sciatica pain?
The most common cause of sciatica or sciatic pain is a herniated disk or overgrowth of bone that puts pressure on the lumbar spine nerve roots. This can result in inflammation, pain, and oftentimes numbness in one leg. Patients with sciatica caused by a herniated disk can improve quickly with treatment such as physical therapy for sciatica.
Physical therapy for sciatica can also help patients with more severe sciatica or sciatica caused by conditions other than a herniated disk. The key to a successful physical therapy journey is one that’s personalized for you. One that you look forward to showing up for. Our team of compassionate and professional physical therapists at Release Physical Therapy in Tysons personalize every journey, targeting the root cause of every condition.

For sciatica pain, physical therapy is one of the most effective treatments and should be explored before other treatments.
Physical therapy should be designed to help you alleviate pain and discomfort, sciatica pain included. It can also help improve balance, posture, strength, and your connection with your body; all things that can help you avoid injury in the future. Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of physical therapy is peeling back your layers and truly starting to learn about your body. With regular one-on-one sessions with your Release Physical Therapist, you can work together to modify treatments as needed to achieve results as quickly as possible. After all, flexibility is an important part of our bodily function and our mindset. Physical therapy is one of the most common treatment options for sciatica in Tysons. As you seek relief, before scheduling another professional treatment, such as a chiropractor, start with a trusted physical therapist of your choice in Tysons. Our team of experienced physical therapists is ready to work side-by-side with you. Your Release Physical Therapist can identify the root cause of your sciatica and develop a personalized treatment plan, made just for you.
Your Release Physical Therapist can make recommendations during one-on-one sessions. Their recommended movements for sciatica pain relief will be personalized to you. This can include low-impact movement or no movement at all. Your Release Physical Therapist can provide one-on-one guidance during treatment and offer exercises outside of treatment to help you optimize results.
It depends. While sciatica can flare up, long periods of limited to no activity can make it worse. Movement can aid in healing. It’s best to consult your physical therapist to determine what movements are the most beneficial. Generally speaking, most patients can benefit from low-impact movement. Trust in your Release Physical Therapist to empower you with motion and find relief from sciatica.
Similar to other red flags your body provides that something is wrong, ignoring sciatica pain can worsen your condition. Prioritizing your health in a proactive and holistic manner is one of the best ways to maintain your health, and improve it. Poor posture, tight muscles, unhealthy habits, and strain on the body can worsen sciatica. There’s also the possibility that you have an untreated condition that’s contributing to the pain. By addressing the underlying cause, you can experience more progress than you ever imagined with physical therapy.
