What Is the NEUBIE Device?

The NEUBIE (Neuro-Bio-Electric Stimulator) is a cutting-edge electrical stimulation device developed by Neufit. Unlike traditional TENS or EMS units, the NEUBIE uses direct current (DC) to communicate more effectively with the nervous system.

In simple terms: the NEUBIE helps the nervous system relearn how to move correctly. Our goal as physical therapists is to improve movement patterns to reduce pain and improve function. Therefore, the machine in combination with physical therapy, can improve your function and help with your return to pain free goals.

How NEUBIE Enhances Physical Therapy

The NEUBIE should be integrated in combination with, not in replacement of, physical therapy.

Key Benefits of NEUBIE-Assisted Physical Therapy

  1. Improved Muscle Activation
The NEUBIE helps activate muscles that may be inhibited due to pain, injury, or surgery. This is especially helpful when patients struggle to “turn on” certain muscles.
  2. Faster Strength Gains
Because the NEUBIE works directly with the nervous system, patients can often build strength more efficiently while using lower loads, therefore reducing joint stress.
  3. Reduced Pain During Movement
Many patients report being able to move with less pain during NEUBIE-guided exercises, allowing for better-quality movement earlier in rehab.
  4. Enhanced Neuromuscular Re-education
The NEUBIE excels at retraining proper movement patterns, which is critical for long-term recovery and injury prevention.
  5. Objective Feedback
Therapists can use NEUBIE data to assess progress and fine-tune treatment, ensuring care remains truly individualized.

Conditions That May Benefit

Physical therapy combined with NEUBIE technology may be especially helpful for:

  • Chronic pain (back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee)
  • Sports injuries
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s, post stroke and more.
  • Muscle imbalances and movement dysfunction
  • Overuse and repetitive strain injuries

Every patient is different, but your skilled Release physical therapist will determine whether the NEUBIE is appropriate for you based on your needs and goals. The true value of the NEUBIE lies in how it is used by a trained physical therapist who understands anatomy, biomechanics, and movement science.

Although we are excited to try the NEUBIE, there are some patients that are not appropriate for this device, so please make sure to let your therapist know if you are pregnant or have a pacemaker device; or if you are recovering from cancer, or a clotting disorder.

At Release Physical Therapy, NEUBIE sessions are always part of your one on one 55 minute treatment and will involve manual therapy, other modalities as needed, strength and mobility exercises, and education. This comprehensive approach ensures long lasting results. We are excited to try this machine together and see how it can further improve your recovery. Schedule an appointment today! Remember, this new innovative technology in combination with our trained, skilled physical therapists, helps us get voted Best of DC and Expertise Best Physical Therapy in DC year after year.
